Re: Mason's 1968 model 05
Your belt arrangement is different than mine with the idler on the flat side, and your belt span is a lot shorter. I think in my case I should find a new location for the idler (with some spring tension) that will not press the belts toward the exhaust so much. Part of it might be that the belt is too long, it could have been changed from the factory setup.
If you hit the road soon you should hunt up a truck scale and find out how much you weigh. I'm betting that you added 2000 to 3500 lbs.

Re: Mason's 1968 model 05
Walter: with long belts like you have, you have several options to tension your belts. I felt like this (my design) was the only way to do it in my case because my belts are so short and my motor mount sticks up a long ways compared to an eagle mount. As you can see in the last picture I posted, the belts are still pretty close to the motor mount.
I’ll be interested if your estimate on weight gain is correct...

Mason, the spring system looks good. The idler you are using is really small for that belt. I suspect you will get premature undercord cracking.

Jim, sorry, last statement I made was kinda harsh
Starting to look like a bus again!!
Glad to get a fender on again.
Exterior lights should be here sometime, we will have a unique bus concerning lights. I guess you'll have to wait and see...
Our goal is to have a drivable shell by July. Optimistic? Yes. But I think it can happen.

Re: Mason's 1968 model 05
Mason, no offense taken. If the belts do crack you can run them until they start chunking out under the tensile cord. I think you have room for a bigger idler if you find a need later on.
Great progress on the bus. Sounds like you have been on a marathon and the finish line is in site.

Re: Mason's 1968 model 05
Well, as Walter said, there are a lot of little details, but it is definitely getting closer to drivable.
Put 5 more pieces of steel on today, I think that is it for the steel skin!
Corners will be fiberglass.

Re: Mason's 1968 model 05
You have committed to using sheet steel for the upper siding, but how do you plan to join the sections together for a smooth appearance? You also may have trouble joining in fiberglass corners. You put a lot of work into the front cap, but it does not seem to be angled back to match the windshield angle, as far as the pictures show. That might affect the aerodynamics. Eagle had tested the profiles for air flow to enhance fuel economy, and in any vehicle the frontal area is critical. Might be too late, but I would give it consideration, look at it from the side to see the profile.

Re: Mason's 1968 model 05
Walter, front is not angled as much as before, but still some. I am not worried about it, I've seen many eagles this way.
As for joining the skin, I will post photos when we get there.
Progress:
Silver siding almost done around rear wheel wells.
Wayne, thanks for letting me borrow clecos, they are really helping me out.
Talked to spray foam guy today, aiming for end of month.
Anything special I should know?
Got lots of lights, it will look pretty sharp in the end.
Now to install them...
