With apologies, I'm starting this a little out of order. However, you have to cut me a little slack as I'm very excited to start her after fifteen years!

Re: gsriley1's Eagle Model 1
I had hoped to start our generator this weekend, but the weather intervened and prevented me from doing so. I couldn't get any pictures of the Gen Set either as the bay is exceedingly dark.
However, I was able to climb into the compartment and now know exactly what we have, and it's a doozie!
It is powered by a 4 cylinder 51hp Perkins 4.108 diesel. These are apparently very popular engines as backup power for sailboats. It seems that all parts are available including a serpentine belt kit which allows you to install a high-amperage alternator for recharging the start battery, but which I also plan to use to charge our house batteries.
The head unit is a Lima Mac 280 series. It is apparently 10kw, and appears to be brushless and industrial quality. I don't know if it is acceptable for powering delicate electronics like computers, etc. This same unit is still available new from Marathon Electric.
The generator head requires a constant 1800 rpm, which shouldn't be a problem as the little Perkins can apparently run 4,000 rpm continuously with great reliability.
My only reservation is the sound level. I just don't know how loud the Perkins is going to be.
I would be interested to hear from anybody that has information on this combination.
