Why would you want the low alarm to sound at 22 gal?
It would make better sense to me to have it sound around 40.
In my 05 you run out around 22 gal.
I'd go ahead and use the shorter sender and enjoy the little cushion that provides.
A little shorter pickup tube helps keep things happy.
Longer tubes can pickup debris from the bottom of the tank.
A good rule of thumb, IMO, is to always operate in the top half of the tank.
Running out of fuel is no fun. The least problem is to refill the filters.
You do not want to have to reprime the injectors.
It would happen at night in driving rain or snow and no help available.
If like mine the bedroom must be removed to gain access to top of engine.
Wife very unhappy.
400 or 500 miles between fuel stops keeps everyone happy.

Ok, I got all this done the way I want it. I cleaned up my OEM sender and reinstalled it. It registered about 1/4 tank with 36 gallons in it. I bought a float switch from Liquidlevel.com, a 1/4" stainless pipe nipple, a 1/4x1/8 stainless NPT reducer coupling, and a 3/4x1/4 brass bushing. These are all the parts.
My tank had a plugged 3/4" threaded hole in the top where I installed this switch.
I cut the pipe at 24" which when all together put the float trigger about 8" off the floor. The switch closes with 35-36 gallons of fuel left in the tank. That's plenty to get me to the next stop.
I put it all in, tested it in the shop. I added 2 gallons and it went out. I drove it about 13-14 miles and boom, it came on Nice.
I think I spent around $47 for all the parts.

Just for my own pleasure I filled my tank and drove 810 miles until the low fuel light came on. I am happy with my additional warning system

On a model 10 it is about 2/3 of the way back under one of the access covers in the middle of the bus. If someone has put a new floor in, it is likely that you will not be able to get to it.
Many/most OEM fuel gauges do not work well. Replacing the sending unit often does not seem to solve the problem.
Many Eagle owners simply use miles as their fuel gauge. They top off the tank and then drive whatever amount of miles that they feel comfortable with. The tank typically holds 150 gallons and if you get 6 miles per gallon, a good mileage to refill might be something like 500 miles. Those numbers can be adjusted as necessary. Whatever mileage you choose, make sure you are conservative so that wind and hill variables can be accounted for.
DDEC engines offer a different option of "fuel gauge" but we won't go into that here.
